The hub of the international Fulbright community is the Fulbright Association based in Washington, D.C. Every year in fall, the Fulbright Association organizes its annual conference and invites Fulbrighters from all around the world to attend.

Since 2004, the annual conference has been alternating between the US and an international  location. In 2004 in Athens, the “tradition” was born to organize the conference in the year of the Summer Olympics in the city of the Olympics. Thus, the conference took place in Athens in 2004, in Beijing in 2008 and is scheduled for London in 2012.

Other locations were Marrakech in 2008 and Buenos Aires in 2010. The German Fulbright Alumni Association was represented at all of those conferences.

On the European level, a closer cooperation among Fulbright Alumni Associations was initiated as early as in 1993 with a jointly organized PowWow in Brussels between the German and Belgian Fulbright Associations. Working meetings followed in Paris in 1996 and Strassburg 1998. The Spanish Fulbright Association invited all European Fulbright Alumni to an international conference in Toledo in 2000.

An e-mail list which includes all European Fulbright Alumni Associations was created through which invitations to our national events are published Europe-wide.

Since 2011, the German Fulbright Alumni Association is a member of the European Network of Alumni Associations (ENAM), a network initiated by the U.S. State Department which connects alumni organizations from all over Europe. More information can be found on the ENAM website.

Our Silver anniversary PowWow in May 2011 was organized as an international event in which non-German Fulbrighters were actively participating as panelists and workshop moderators.
