Fulbright International

Hub of the international Fulbright community is the Fulbright Association  based in Washington, D.C. Every year, the Fulbright Association organises an international conference for Fulbrighters from all over the world.

Until 2003, this annual conference always took only place in Washington, D.C. In 2004, however, it was held outside of the US for the first time;  it was combined with a conference organised by the Hellenic Fulbright Association in Athens (which also hosted the Olympic Games in the same year). The German Fulbright Alumni Association participated in the Athens conference with speakers and several further attendees. In 2006, the Maroccon Fulbright Association organised the worldwide Fulbright conference, and in 2008 a conference is scheduled to take place in Beijing.

On the European level closer cooperation is being built between the various Fulbright Alumni associations. The German Fulbright Alumni Association organised two prepatory meetings, which were held in Frankfurt during the Welcome Meeting in 2007 and in Berlin before this year's Berlin Seminar (an event organised by the Fulbright Commission). A follow-up event focusing on European cooperation is planned for next year's Berlin Seminar.

Another player in the international Fulbright Community is the Fulbright Academy of Science and Technology (FAST), which has already held a conference in Germany - in Berlin.
