We must dare to think about unthinkable things because when things become unthinkable, thinking stops and action becomes mindless.

European Network of American Alumni Associations (ENAM): Constitution & Board of Directors

From 1-2 December 2011, 34 representatives from various European alumni organizations (among them the German Fulbright Alumni Association, represented by Benjamin Becker) met in Rome to formally establish the European Network of American Alumni Associations (ENAM).

During the Consitutive Assembly, ENAM gave itself a constitution and a mission statement, both of which will soon be officialized.

The present representatives also confirmed Massimo Cugusi as Secretary General and elected the following persons into the European Board of Directors:

  • Vicente López-Ibor Mayor (Spain)
  • Jeyhun Karamov (Azerbaijan)
  • Katarina Kohen (Serbia)
  • Benjamin Becker (Germany)
  • Faten Saleh (France)
  • Paul Donnelly (Ireland)
  • Muddassar Ahmed (United Kingdom)

The German Fulbright Alumni are thus officially represented in ENAM. More information on the network and its upcoming activities can be found on the ENAM website.

9/11-Matinee with Tariq Ali: Impressions

September 11, 2011 marked the 10th anniversary of the terrible terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, D.C. To commemorate this event and analyze its aftermath, the German Fulbright Alumni Association joined the Amerika Haus e.V. NRW in its organization of a matinee with bestselling author Tariq Ali.

The event took place in the former building of the Amerika Haus in Cologne (now operated by the Fritz Thyssen Stiftung). It included a talk by Ali, a discussion moderated by Fulbrighter and Deutsche Welle host Brent Goff, and a reception where guests could continue the discussion with Ali. A summary can be found on the Amerika Haus' website.

Photos of the event, as well as a video recording of the talk and the discussion can be found here.

We hope that those who were present enjoyed the event, and we look forward to future co-operations with the Amerika Haus!

Anniversary PowWow: Audio and video clips

After a spectacular Anniversary PowWow in Berlin, we can now finally present you audio and video clips on the event.

The audio clips are from our partner National Public Radio (NPR) and include recordings of the two Saturday panels. They can be found at http://www.npr.org/series/113981425/npr-fm-berlin-bonus.

The video clip was recorded by our prospective panelist Houda Mezioudet from Tunisia, whose visa was sadly rejected very shortly before the event. While it would have been more than interesting to have her report on the situation in Tunisia in person, her video still provides us with her valuable insights - at least in a digital form.

Enjoy the clips!
